WANA ( Mar 05) – Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi held an urgent telephone conversation with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Jeyhun Bayramov, to address reports of explosions in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

Diplomatic Denial and Investigation

During the call, Araghchi categorically denied allegations that any projectiles had been fired from Iranian territory toward Nakhchivan. He reaffirmed Iran’s “good neighborliness” policy and expressed a desire to expand bilateral ties in all sectors.

“The Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran are currently conducting the necessary investigations into this matter,” Araghchi stated. He also expressed regret over reports that several Azerbaijani citizens were injured in the incident, wishing them a swift recovery.

Allegations of Israeli Sabotage

Araghchi pointed to the Israeli regime as the likely orchestrator behind such incidents, suggesting they are designed to distract public opinion and sabotage Iran’s relations with its neighbors. He noted that similar “provocations” have been observed in recent days.

Clarification on Military Policy

The conversation follows comments by Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi regarding unconfirmed reports of a drone strike on Nakhchivan International Airport.

Gharibabadi clarified that attacking neighbors is not Iran’s policy. He added: “We do not target neighboring countries unless the military bases of our enemies—namely the U.S. and the Zionist regime—are stationed there and used as launchpads for attacks against Iran.”
