WANA (Jun 29) – Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs and the country’s senior negotiator, has dismissed media reports claiming that technical talks between Iran and the United States are set to take place in Doha, stating that no such meetings have been scheduled for this week.

 

Responding to reporters’ questions about the technical working groups established under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding on ending the recent conflict, Gharibabadi said that no technical meetings have been planned for the current week.

 

He added that consultations with Qatar, including discussions on following up the implementation of the other side’s commitments, are continuing as usual. However, he stressed that reports by some media outlets claiming that technical working-group talks will be held in Doha cannot be confirmed.

 

According to Gharibabadi, the first round of technical discussions within the designated working groups will be held once the necessary conditions are in place and both sides agree on the date and venue. He noted that consultations on these arrangements are continuing through mediating countries.

 

His remarks came after several international media outlets, including Reuters and Al Mayadeen, cited U.S. officials as claiming that technical negotiations between Iran and the United States would resume in Doha in the coming days.

 

According to those reports, the talks were expected to cover all provisions of the bilateral memorandum of understanding, including issues related to navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has now declined to confirm those reports.
