Iran Denies Requesting Meeting with U.S.
WANA (Jul 08) – Following recent U.S. claims about an upcoming meeting with Iranian officials, Iran’s Foreign Ministry has denied requesting any such talks. Esmail Baghaei, spokesperson for the ministry, stated, “No meeting request has been made by us to the American side.”
The denial comes in response to remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump, who, during a meeting with the Israeli Prime Minister, claimed that the timing for the next round of negotiations with Iran has been set.
He further asserted: “Iran’s nuclear facilities have been completely destroyed. Iran wants to negotiate—we will negotiate with them and may even reach a deal.”
Steve Witkoff, the U.S. lead negotiator on Iran, echoed the claim, saying: “We will meet with the Iranians soon—perhaps as early as next week.”
Meanwhile, the White House stated that the U.S. is in contact with Iran, both directly and indirectly, regarding a potential agreement. It also announced that Witkoff will travel to Doha, Qatar, later this week to advance ceasefire talks on Gaza, which it described as a top Middle East priority for President Trump.
