WANA (Apr 11) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei has condemned recent threats appearing in U.S. media outlets, characterizing them as a dangerous promotion of political violence against Iranian diplomats.

Normalizing “Extortion” Through Threats

In a statement published on X, Baghaei highlighted the contradiction between U.S. official rhetoric and domestic media discourse.

He noted that while U.S. authorities accuse Iran of lacking “good faith” and engaging in “extortion,” elements within the U.S. policy and media space are “outright recommending the assassination of Iranian negotiators in the event that negotiations fail.”

The spokesperson challenged the underlying intent of such rhetoric, asking: “Is this not, in effect, a policy discourse that normalizes extortion through the threat or public incitement of terror, violence, and manslaughter?”

Demand for Accountability

Baghaei specifically referenced a column in The Washington Post which suggested “eliminating” Iranian officials if a deal is not reached.

He concluded by stressing that this “express public incitement for state terrorism must be denounced by all.”
