WANA (Sep 01) – Iran’s Air Defense Force Commander has announced that a new generation of fully domestically developed air defense systems is being designed and manufactured, with some of the projects having no known foreign equivalent.

 

Brigadier General Alireza Elhami, commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Air Defense Headquarters, said that the new air defense projects are currently undergoing design and development stages and are gradually being transformed into operational systems.

 

Elhami said that after the initial versions of these systems enter service and their performance is evaluated in operational environments, they will go through further improvement and refinement stages. Systems that complete the required technical and legal processes and reach the necessary level of maturity will then move into mass production.

 

The commander also highlighted one of the key advantages of domestically developed air defense systems: the limited knowledge that potential adversaries have about their technical specifications, capabilities, and operational methods. According to him, this factor made countering Iran’s air defense network more challenging during recent hostilities.

 

He added that several indigenous air defense systems were deployed during the 40-day war and played a role in confronting aerial threats.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Coordinator of Iran’s Air Defense Force said the country’s air defense network is deployed at more than 3,800 locations across Iran, including many remote and difficult-to-access areas such as deserts, coastal regions, islands, and mountainous zones.

 

He described the main missions of air defense as four stages: detection, identification, tracking, and engagement with aerial targets. According to him, the network is responsible for detecting any airborne object within Iran’s airspace and beyond its coverage areas, and, when necessary, intercepting threats through fighter aircraft or missile-based air defense systems.

 

The official emphasized that the ultimate mission of Iran’s air defense network is to prevent hostile aircraft from carrying out their missions and to neutralize aerial threats when required.
