WANA (Jun 12) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry has pushed back against intense media speculation regarding an imminent preliminary agreement with the United States, clarifying that the draft proposal is currently undergoing an internal review and that no final decision has been made.

 

Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei stated that any official announcement regarding a potential understanding is strictly contingent upon reaching a finalized conclusion.

 

He emphasized that the decision-making process within the Islamic Republic is clearly defined, requiring relevant state authorities to thoroughly review and reach a consensus on every single line and detail of the text before any agreement can move forward.

 

Media Speculation on Timeline and Venue Dismissed

The statement comes in direct response to widespread reports in foreign media and remarks from U.S. President Donald Trump suggesting that a final settlement had been reached and was scheduled to be signed this upcoming Sunday in Geneva.

 

Baghaei dismissed these reports as premature, explaining that logistical details concerning how or where a memorandum might be signed belong to much later stages of the process.

 

He characterized the current narrative surrounding the timeline and location as strictly within the realm of media speculation.

Reinforcing the ministry’s official stance, a source close to the Iranian negotiating team explicitly denied the rumors linking a formal signing ceremony to Switzerland this weekend.

 

“Claims made by Trump and certain foreign media outlets asserting that the deal has been finalized and is set to be signed on Sunday in Geneva are completely untrue,” the informed source said.

 

The source concluded by reiterating that because the evaluation and decision-making framework inside Tehran has not yet run its course, both the projected Sunday timeline and the Geneva venue are entirely denied.

 

Iranian political analyst Seyed Mohammad Marandi also wrote on X: “Nothing is happening in Geneva on Sunday. There is still work to do.”
