Iran Executes Individual Convicted of Supporting a Failed Sabotage Operation
WANA (Jan 28) – Iran’s Judiciary announced the execution of Hamidreza Sabet Esmailpour, who had been convicted of espionage and intelligence cooperation with Israel’s intelligence service, Mossad, following the completion of legal proceedings and confirmation of the verdict by the Supreme Court.
According to official statements, Sabet was arrested on April 29, 2025, on charges related to the transfer of classified documents and logistical support for a planned sabotage operation targeting sensitive Iranian defense facilities. The operation, referred to by Iranian authorities as the “Major Operation,” was previously detected and neutralized in 2022.
The Judiciary’s Media Center reported that security investigations revealed Sabet had maintained direct contact with a Mossad intelligence officer and carried out multiple assignments, including the procurement of equipment, relocation of vehicles across the provinces of Isfahan and Lorestan, and the transmission of classified materials.
Court documents indicate that some of the relocated vehicles were rigged with explosives and intended for sabotage activities.
Investigators also determined that Sabet received financial compensation through methods such as cryptocurrency exchanges and fund transfers to accounts belonging to relatives. His online activities and use of encrypted communication systems formed a significant part of the evidence presented in court.
Judicial authorities stated that the defendant admitted to the charges during various stages of the investigation and trial, acknowledging full awareness of the nature of his cooperation with Israeli intelligence.
Based on reports from security agencies, classified documents recovered during the investigation, and the defendant’s confessions, the court sentenced him to death and ordered the confiscation of assets obtained through illegal activities.
After a review by the Supreme Court and final confirmation of the verdict, the sentence was carried out early this morning. Iranian officials emphasized that the case was handled in accordance with domestic law and established judicial procedures.
