WANA (Apr 23) – A man convicted of membership in the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK) and collaboration with Israel’s intelligence service has been executed in Iran, according to the country’s judiciary.

The Judiciary’s media center announced that Soltanali Shirzadi Fakhr was hanged early this morning after his death sentence was upheld by Iran’s Supreme Court. He had been convicted on charges of “enmity against God” (moharebeh), for allegedly taking up arms against the lives, property, and security of the public, participating in armed operations, membership in the MEK, and cooperation with Israel’s Mossad.

According to official statements, Shirzadi was a long-time member of the MEK and had been involved with the group since the 1980s. In 1987, he reportedly left Iran illegally via the Salmas border and was transferred to Iraq, where he underwent ideological and military training, including the use of RPGs, tanks, armored vehicles, and anti-aircraft weapons.

Based on his recorded confessions, he participated in the “Forough Javidan” and “Chelcheragh” operations against Iran. He also described his role in the Forough Javidan operation, stating that he and a group of fighters were ordered to move overnight toward a city in western Iran, advancing to a nearby junction, where they remained until a retreat order was issued.

He was also involved in armed clashes in 2012 at Camp Ashraf in Iraq, where he was injured during confrontations with Iraqi forces.

After later relocating to Spain, he was reportedly assigned a new mission to be carried out inside Iran. According to Iranian authorities, this mission was part of a covert project coordinated with Mossad. Given the sensitivity of the operation, he was selected as an experienced operative.

Authorities say he re-entered Iran under the pretext of visiting family after years abroad. However, he was immediately identified, placed under intelligence surveillance, and arrested before carrying out any planned operation.

The judiciary’s report further claims that the MEK has, in recent years, acted as a proxy for foreign intelligence services, particularly Mossad, and has been linked to several attacks inside Iran, including assassinations of civilians and nuclear scientists.

The statement also noted that other related cases are being processed. In West Azerbaijan province, 11 cases have resulted in prison sentences. In Fars province, 59 individuals have been convicted and are currently serving their prison terms.
