Iran Executes Two Members of MEK Terror Group
WANA (Mar 30) – Two individuals affiliated with the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK) were executed in Iran after being convicted of carrying out multiple terrorist activities in Tehran, following the confirmation of their sentences by the Supreme Court.
According to official reports, Akbar Daneshvarkar and Mohammad Taghavi Sangdehi were involved in recent unrest and urban terrorist operations, acting under the direction of operatives linked to the group outside the country. Investigations found that they had entered an operational phase after establishing contact with coordinators via Telegram.
Mohammad Taghavi Sangdehi was identified as the leader of an operational cell. He organised and recruited members, conducted surveillance of sensitive locations, and planned disruptive attacks. He also used funds provided by the group to rent safe houses and procure equipment, including explosive launchers.
Authorities reported that the suspects used false identities and documents belonging to relatives to carry out financial and logistical activities. They also received training to manufacture and supply weapons to other operational cells. Materials related to explosive devices were discovered in the properties used by the group.
Akbar Daneshvarkar was also found to have participated in unrest and to have played a role in reconnaissance and planning operations targeting security forces. He maintained contact with the group’s coordinators and took part in several missions.
Following their arrest, a case was opened and referred to court after investigations were completed. The defendants were charged with terrorism-related offences, including membership in an armed group, conspiracy against national security, and collaboration with the MEK.
The court, citing confessions, intelligence reports, collected evidence, and surveillance footage, sentenced both men to death. The verdict was upheld by the Supreme Court upon appeal.
The executions were carried out earlier today after the rulings were finalised.
