WANA (Aug 18) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran issued an official statement announcing the expulsion of two diplomats working at the French Embassy in Tehran, declaring them persona non grata.

 

According to the statement, the decision was made due to activities carried out by the two officials that violated international law—specifically the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

 

The ministry noted that despite weeks passing since their illegal behaviors were exposed, the French government failed to take corrective action or provide guarantees against future violations. Consequently, the two individuals have been designated as persona non grata, and their entry into Iran is prohibited.

 

In swift retaliation to Tehran’s announcement, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared that two Iranian diplomats would be expelled from France in the coming days.

 

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot took to the social media platform X on Tuesday evening to confirm the measures. He claimed that two French diplomats had been “deliberately targeted” on July 19, describing the incident as an intolerable act that would face consequences.
