Iran Expresses Condolences to Libya Following Plane Crash
WANA (Dec 24) – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei has offered condolences to the government and people of Libya following the death of General Mohammed Al-Haddad, Chief of General Staff of the Libyan Government of National Unity, in a plane crash in Turkey.
In an official statement, Baghaei referred to the “tragic incident” that led to the passing of the General and his accompanying delegation, expressing deep sympathy for the Libyan nation.
The crash occurred late on December 23, 2025, in the Haymana district near Ankara. The Falcon 50 aircraft, carrying General Al-Haddad and four other high-ranking military officials—including the chiefs of the Land Forces and the Military Industry Organization—and three crew members lost their lives.
The aircraft went down shortly after departing from Esenboğa Airport. According to official Turkish reports, the pilot had reported a technical failure in the electrical systems and requested an emergency landing before the aircraft disappeared from radar.
Following this loss, the Libyan government has declared three days of national mourning, and a joint investigation with Turkey has been launched to determine the exact cause of the crash.
