Iran FA Chief Dismisses World Cup Exclusion Rumors
WANA (Jan 29) – The head of the Football Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran (FFIRI) said the national team is continuing its preparations with full strength and will not be sidelined by any threats.
In remarks addressing recent comments attributed to U.S. President Donald Trump, FFIRI President Mehdi Taj rejected rumors about Iran’s possible exclusion from the World Cup as unfounded.
“Such a decision is beyond the authority of any individual,” Taj said. “This claim is completely baseless. No one can arbitrarily decide to include or remove a team in this manner.”
Commenting on the current state of the national team, Taj stressed that conditions are positive and that both players and coaching staff are working at full capacity.
“The team is in good shape. Players and the technical staff are doing their jobs with maximum effort,” he said. “The national team is preparing with strength and full focus for the competitions, and there are no concerns regarding readiness.”
Taj also addressed questions about the national team’s training camp in the United States and its distance from match venues. He explained that the initially planned camp was approved and secured by U.S. authorities, but its location was farther from the match sites than expected.
“As a result, we considered a second option,” he noted. “All of our actions are being carried out according to plan and under the supervision of the relevant authorities.”
Emphasizing that the federation’s primary objective is to provide ideal conditions for the players, Taj said there are no obstacles in the team’s preparation process. “Our focus is on the quality of training sessions, team coordination, and tactical preparation for matches,” he added.
“All necessary facilities have been provided. Political rumors and external threats will have no impact on the national team’s performance, and our plans are moving forward with precision and transparency.”
Taj concluded by underlining the symbolic role of the national team on the global stage. “The Iranian national team represents our country internationally, and all efforts are focused on achieving success and positive results,” he said. “People can be assured that we will participate in the competitions with full strength.”
