WANA (Oct 28) – Iran’s U23 freestyle wrestling team captured two golds, one silver, and three bronzes, finishing second overall at the 2025 U23 World Championships in Serbia.

 

In the final team standings, the United States claimed the title with 137 points, followed by Iran with 127 points, and Japan in third place with 85 points.

 

Iran’s gold medals came from Mobin Azimi (92 kg) and Abolfazl Mohammadzadeh (125 kg), while Sina Khalili (70 kg) earned silver. Milad Valizadeh (57 kg), Mehdi Yousefi (79 kg), and Abolfazl Rahmani (86 kg) each won bronze.

 

In the 86 kg bronze-medal match, Abolfazl Rahmani faced French wrestler of Russian origin Rahim Magomedov. Despite trailing 4–0 at the end of the first period, Rahmani rallied to win 7–5, securing a bronze medal for Iran.

 

However, Abolfazl Babalu (97 kg), Iran’s final representative, lost his bronze-medal bout to Rezzabek Aitmukhan of Kazakhstan — a world champion — by a 7–1 score and finished fifth.

 

Earlier, Reza Momeni (61 kg) and Yasin Rezaei (65 kg) had been eliminated from the competition after suffering defeats in the preliminary rounds.

 

The United States topped the team standings with four golds and one bronze, totaling 137 points, followed by Iran (127 points) and Japan (85 points).
