Iran FM, EU Foreign Policy Chief Discuss Regional Developments
WANA (Mar 18) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi held a telephone conversation with Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s foreign policy chief, to discuss recent regional developments following military aggression by the United States and Israel.
During the call, Araghchi outlined what he called “crimes” committed by the U.S. and Israel, including alleged attacks on hospitals, schools, infrastructure, and residential areas.
He emphasized that all governments bear responsibility to condemn such actions and stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran remains determined to defend its territorial integrity and national sovereignty with full capacity.
The Iranian foreign minister also sharply criticized what he described as the “double standards” of certain European countries and senior EU officials regarding the situation.
He warned that any support for or leniency toward what he termed violations by the U.S. and Israel would amount to complicity in actions against the Iranian people.
Araghchi further stated that the current situation in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz is a direct consequence of what he described as a war imposed by the United States.
He cautioned against what he alleged are U.S. efforts to draw other countries into a broader conflict, warning of serious consequences.
He added that disruptions to shipping in the Strait of Hormuz stem from the ongoing conflict and urged the European Union and its member states to prioritize pressuring what he called aggressors rather than adopting “irresponsible positions.”
For her part, Kallas expressed serious concern over the security, humanitarian, and economic consequences of the conflict and reiterated the European Union’s position calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities.
