Iran Has the Right to Maintain Its Nuclear Program
WANA (Dec 23) – Russia’s representative to international organizations based in Vienna said early Tuesday that Iran has the right to maintain a peaceful nuclear program in accordance with the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, reaffirmed Iran’s nuclear rights in response to recent remarks by former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
Commenting on Pompeo’s claims, Ulyanov wrote on his personal account on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter): “Apparently, the former Secretary of State does not know that under the NPT Iran has the inalienable right to maintain a national nuclear programme provided that it serves exclusively peaceful purposes.”
Pompeo, who served as U.S. secretary of state during President Donald Trump’s first term, had earlier claimed that Iran was “doing everything it can to revive its nuclear program” and called for preventing this by continuing Washington’s so-called maximum pressure policy.
