Iran Human Rights Headquarters Condemns Repeated Ceasefire Violations by Israel
WANA (Jun 21) – The Human Rights Headquarters of the Islamic Republic of Iran has issued a statement condemning what it described as repeated ceasefire violations and continued acts of aggression by Israel against Iran and Lebanon.
The body expressed deep concern over the continuation of what it called aggressive actions and repeated breaches of commitments arising from the ceasefire agreement of April 8, condemning Israel’s “illegal and provocative conduct” toward Iran and Lebanon in the strongest terms.
The statement said that repeated ceasefire violations, cross-border attacks, the ongoing threat to regional peace and security, and the blatant disregard for fundamental principles of international law—including the prohibition on the use of force under Article 2(4) of the United Nations Charter—constitute clear examples of irresponsible behavior that endanger regional stability and increase suffering and insecurity for civilians.
It further stated that these aggressive actions, which in numerous instances have allegedly involved violations of fundamental human rights, including the right to life, security, and the protection of civilians, are inconsistent with states’ obligations under the UN Charter, international humanitarian law, and international human rights instruments.
The statement added that the continuation of such conduct not only undermines the international legal order but also challenges the credibility of international mechanisms responsible for maintaining peace and security.
The Human Rights Headquarters emphasized the responsibility of the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to prevent the recurrence of what it called illegal actions.
It called for immediate and effective measures to compel Israel to fully comply with its international obligations and halt its alleged aggressive and destabilizing policies.
The statement reiterated that Iran has consistently emphasized respect for international law, the preservation of regional peace and security, and the peaceful settlement of disputes through legal mechanisms.
At the same time, it noted that under Article 51 of the UN Charter and established principles of international law, every state has an inherent right to self-defense against armed aggression.
It said Iran reserves its legal and legitimate right to take necessary and proportionate measures to defend its sovereignty, territorial integrity, national security, and citizens.
The statement concluded by stressing that lasting peace can only be achieved through all parties’ adherence to international law, respect for human rights, the cessation of aggressive actions, and an end to impunity for violations of international law.
