Iran Inaugurates 150 MW of Solar Power Across Eight Provinces
WANA (Aug 28) – Coinciding with Iran’s Government Week, Iran’s Minister of Energy, Abbas Aliabadi, inaugurated 150 megawatts (MW) of solar power capacity across eight provinces.
The projects were launched in Alborz, Isfahan, Tehran, Semnan, Sistan and Baluchestan, Qazvin, Markazi, and Yazd provinces, covering 24 sites nationwide.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of a 3-MW solar plant at the Tehran Regional Electricity Company, Minister Aliabadi announced that Iran is currently adding 100–150 MW of solar capacity every week.
He projected that by the end of the year, an additional 5,000 MW would be installed, raising the country’s total solar capacity to 7,000 MW, up from the existing 2,000 MW.
Aliabadi also reported that 97 MW of decentralized and high-distribution power plants will come online, along with 23 projects to upgrade and modernize the distribution network. Additionally, work has begun on a 200-MW solar power plant in Bushehr.
Iran recently recorded its highest-ever instantaneous solar power generation on August 26, 2025, reaching 800 MW. According to the Iran Grid Management Company, the country’s total installed renewable capacity currently stands at around 2,100 MW, with plans to reach 7,000 MW by year-end — lifting renewables’ share of the national energy mix to about 7%.
