Iran, India FMs Discuss Regional Tensions in Call
WANA (Mar 21) – The foreign ministers of Iran and India held a phone conversation to discuss recent regional and international developments amid ongoing military aggression by the United States and Israel.
During the call, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar spoke with Seyed Abbas Araghchi about the situation in the region, its consequences, and the state of bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries.
Araghchi outlined Iran’s position regarding recent developments, describing actions by the United States and Israel as acts of aggression and emphasizing what he called Iran’s “legitimate right to self-defense.”
He stressed the need for independent countries to exert pressure on the parties responsible for initiating the conflict to bring an end to hostilities and to ensure respect for Iran’s sovereignty and national security.
Referring to the situation in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, Araghchi said current tensions are part of a broader regional context and the result of actions by the United States and Israel.
He added that restoring normal conditions depends on halting attacks and securing guarantees to prevent further escalation.
Jaishankar, for his part, emphasized the importance of expanding bilateral cooperation across various sectors and highlighted the need for efforts aimed at restoring stability and security in the region.
Both sides agreed to continue consultations and maintain ongoing diplomatic engagement, including coordination with other countries in the region.
