WANA (Feb 27) – Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, has called on Afghanistan and Pakistan to resolve their differences through dialogue and in the spirit of good neighborliness.

In a statement issued during the holy month of Ramadan, Araghchi emphasized that the sacred month—marked by self-restraint and solidarity across the Islamic world—provides an appropriate opportunity for the two neighboring countries to manage and settle their disputes through constructive engagement.

He stressed that existing disagreements should be addressed within the framework of good neighborly relations and through diplomatic dialogue.

The Islamic Republic of Iran, he added, stands ready to offer any assistance necessary to help facilitate talks and strengthen mutual understanding and cooperation between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The remarks come amid renewed tensions between the two countries. In response to Thursday’s border attacks by Afghanistan’s Taliban government, the Pakistani army carried out overnight airstrikes late Thursday and early Friday targeting Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, as well as the provinces of Kandahar and Paktika.

Following these attacks, the two countries have entered a new phase of heightened tensions.
