WANA (Jun 07) – Local sources reported that Iran launched multiple missiles toward Israeli positions, in what appears to be a direct response to Israel’s latest airstrike on Beirut’s southern suburbs.

 

Air raid sirens sounded across parts of Israel shortly after the missiles were launched, while Israeli media reported that air defense systems had been activated. No official information has yet been released regarding the intended targets or the extent of any damage.

 

The developments came hours after the Israeli military announced strikes on targets in Beirut’s southern suburbs, commonly known as Dahiyeh. According to Lebanese and Israeli media reports, the Al-Mreijeh area was hit by around ten missiles fired by two Israeli fighter jets. Israeli outlets claimed the target was a Hezbollah command-and-control center.

Preliminary reports indicated that at least seven people were killed and several others wounded in the attack. The Israeli military confirmed the operation, stating that it had targeted Hezbollah infrastructure in southern Beirut.

 

The strike on Dahiyeh took place despite a ceasefire arrangement under which Israel was expected to halt attacks on the Lebanese capital. Tehran had previously warned against any military action targeting Beirut, arguing that such a move would constitute a violation of existing understandings.

 

In a statement, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the operation was carried out under the direction of Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz. Israeli officials described the strike as a response to Hezbollah fire directed at Israel.

 

At the same time, Israeli media reported that Israeli authorities had informed the United States before carrying out the operation. This came despite U.S. President Donald Trump’s earlier statement that, following a conversation with Netanyahu, attacks on Beirut would be halted.

 

Iranian officials reacted swiftly to the strike. Ebrahim Rezaei, a member of Iran’s parliament, warned that the attack on Dahiyeh would receive a “decisive and painful response.”

 

Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf also condemned the Israeli strike and recent U.S. positions, stating that what he described as a “naval blockade against the Iranian people” and Washington’s support for Israel had turned U.S. and Israeli assets and bases in the region into “legitimate targets.” He added that Iran’s armed forces retain full authority to respond to threats.

 

No official details have yet been released regarding the scope of Iran’s missile operation, and further information is expected in the coming hours.
