Iran Launches Third Uranium Enrichment Site
WANA (Jun 12) – Iran has officially begun preparations to equip a third uranium enrichment facility, following a politically charged resolution passed by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) against Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program.
Mohammad Eslami, Vice President of Iran and Head of the Atomic Energy Organization, made the announcement on Thursday, stating that the new enrichment site is fully constructed and located in a “secure area” from a security standpoint. According to Eslami, Iran has formally notified the IAEA of its intentions, and the process of installing centrifuges is now underway.
“In response to the resolution issued by the IAEA Board of Governors, we are initiating the development of our third enrichment site,” said Eslami. “This industry is deeply rooted in the hearts of the Iranian people and cannot be dismantled.”
He criticized Western powers for what he described as hypocritical and baseless accusations. “They expect the Iranian nation and government to remain silent, while they shamelessly accuse us of non-compliance. They claim Iran has failed to meet its commitments, yet not a single word in the Agency’s own report confirms this allegation,” he asserted.
Eslami also noted that Iran is upgrading centrifuges at its Fordow nuclear facility, replacing older models with more advanced generations as part of the country’s continuing nuclear advancements.
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of Iran’s Islamic Consultative Assembly, also wrote today (Thursday, June 12) on X:
“The biased resolution of the Board of Governors proves that cooperation with the Nuclear Agency has had the opposite effect. The Islamic Republic of Iran will take strong countermeasures against this overreach. Advanced centrifuge enrichment, launching a new facility, and reducing inspections are legitimate responses to the breach of the path of engagement.”
