Iran May Cancel National Team Friendlies Ahead of World Cup
WANA (Mar 05) – Mehdi Taj, President of the Iranian Football Federation, discussed the latest updates regarding the national football team’s friendly matches against Nigeria and Costa Rica in preparation for the 2026 World Cup.
Taj stated, “Given the conditions in West Asia and the Middle East, all scheduled matches in these regions have been cancelled. Even the Iraq national team is considering playing their World Cup qualifying match in Mexico.”
He continued, “It is highly likely that our friendly matches will also be canceled, but we have yet to receive any official letters or statements from these two national federations.”
“The internet situation is also problematic, making communication difficult. However, considering the current circumstances, it seems unlikely that any matches will take place.”
