WANA (Aug 31) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran has issued an official statement strongly condemning a lethal military attack by U.S. forces on Larak Island and confirming retaliatory strikes against U.S. military installations in Jordan.

 

According to the statement, U.S. forces violated Iran’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity on the evening of Sunday, August 30, 2026, by striking parts of Larak Island. The assault resulted in multiple military and civilian casualties and caused significant damage to public and private property.

 

“In response to this military aggression and in accordance with the inherent right of self-defense, the powerful armed forces of Islamic Iran delivered crushing defensive strikes against U.S. military bases in Jordan, which served as the origin and support hub for the military aggression against Iran,” the ministry stated.

 

Tehran strongly condemned the attack on Larak Island as a flagrant violation of Article 2, Paragraph 4 of the United Nations Charter, calling on the UN Security Council and the Secretary-General to uphold their responsibilities to preserve international peace and hold the aggressor accountable.

 

Addressing international concerns regarding maritime security in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, the ministry asserted that instability in regional shipping lanes stems entirely from illegal actions by the United States and Israel.

 

Tehran noted that tensions began with attacks on Iran on February 28, 2026, and have been sustained over the past six months through a naval blockade and other provocative interventions.

 

The foreign ministry reiterated that Iran’s armed forces will not hesitate to exercise their inherent right to self-defense and will respond decisively to any future military action.

 

“The U.S. regime and all parties complicit in preparing and executing these unlawful acts bear full responsibility for the consequences of America’s renewed aggression, ongoing naval blockade, and economic warfare against Iran,” the statement concluded.
