Iran Moves to Bar Sanctions-Imposing Parties From Strait of Hormuz
WANA (Sep 06) – Iran’s Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee has approved Article 9 of a bill titled the “Strategic Action Plan for Security and Sustainable Development in the Strait of Hormuz,” under which countries and individuals or entities that impose unilateral sanctions on Iran or take hostile actions against the country could be barred from transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
Hassan Ghashghavi, a member of parliament and spokesman for the committee, said the committee continued reviewing the details of the bill on Sunday and approved Article 9.
Under the provision, any country, organization, company or individual that imposes unilateral sanctions on Iran or engages in hostile actions would be subject to a ban on transit through the Strait of Hormuz.
Ghashghavi said the General Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces would be responsible for determining what constitutes hostile action, while the Supreme National Security Council would identify countries, organizations, companies and institutions that have sanctioned Iran or frozen Iranian assets.
