Iran Navy Team Wins Two Golds at Commandant’s Cup
WANA (Aug 27) – The sailing team of the Islamic Republic of Iran Navy, composed of athletes from Imam Khomeini Naval University of Noshahr and coached by Shahab Khatam, claimed two gold medals at the Commandant’s Cup 2025 International Sailing Competition held in Trincomalee, Sri Lanka, from August 20 to 24.
The event, which featured university-level and open categories, was contested in the ILCA 6 and Enterprise classes with participants from regional and extra-regional countries.
Iran entered two competitors in the ILCA 6 class. Ali Fazeli secured first place in the university category, while Mohammad Novidi won gold in the open category. Teams from India and Australia took second and third places, respectively.
The Navy described the team’s success as a valuable opportunity for technical exchange, enhancing athletes’ competitive level, and showcasing Iran’s maritime and sporting capabilities on the international stage.
The statement added that such international competitions not only contribute to developing national champions but also serve as a platform for strengthening military-sporting diplomacy and promoting the Navy’s professional capacities abroad.
