Iran: New Cooperation Framework with IAEA Under Negotiation
WANA (Sep 04) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi announced that Tehran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) are negotiating a new framework for cooperation in light of recent developments.
“As we have previously stated, recent events require a new framework for cooperation,” Araghchi said. “These negotiations are ongoing, and the Agency has accepted that the new circumstances must be pursued under a new arrangement.”
He emphasized that no new cooperation will take place until these negotiations are finalized.
Araghchi also dismissed rumors that Iran could lose its membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) if the snapback mechanism on UN sanctions were triggered.
“No such clause exists, and there was no mention of this issue at the recent summit. On the contrary, member states expressed their support for Iran,” he said.
Speaking to Iranian state media on the sidelines of President Pezeshkian’s trip to China for the SCO summit, Araghchi addressed the president’s absence from the informal group photo, explaining that it was due to “observance of protocols and cultural and religious considerations.” He added that the official group photo was taken the following day, with the president present.
