Iran: No Official Position Announced on Ceasefire
WANA (Apr 22) – Following claims made by Donald Trump regarding an extension of the ceasefire, Iran has not issued any official position, and reports suggesting Tehran’s agreement have not been confirmed.
According to available information, no statement has been released by Iranian authorities on the matter. A quote attributed to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei has also been denied, with officials stating that he made no remarks on the issue today.
The only official response from Iran on this matter came in answer to a question posed to the Foreign Ministry spokesperson regarding Iran’s reply to a request by Ishaq Dar, Pakistan’s foreign minister, to extend the April 8 ceasefire.
Baghaei expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s efforts to reduce tensions and promote peace, emphasizing that Iran did not initiate the conflict and that its actions are in line with its inherent right to self-defense against military aggression by the United States and Israel.
He added that Iran is closely monitoring developments on the ground and in the political arena, taking necessary measures to safeguard its national interests and security. He also noted that the country’s armed forces remain fully prepared to respond decisively to any threats.
Accordingly, Iran’s response to Pakistan’s request remains the only official position expressed so far, and no further statements have been issued by Iranian authorities regarding the ceasefire.
