WANA (Apr 17) – The Commander of the Iranian Army Navy has rejected claims of a maritime blockade against Iran, stating that commercial shipping continues to pass through the Strait of Hormuz without disruption and that U.S. warnings have had no impact.

Rear Admiral Shahram Irani said that Iranian naval forces have prevented U.S. carrier strike groups and amphibious units from entering the Sea of Oman. He noted that following a ceasefire, U.S. forces attempted to assess conditions in the region but were met with a firm response and forced to withdraw.

He added that attempts by U.S. forces to pass through the Strait of Hormuz and enter the Persian Gulf were closely monitored and ultimately thwarted. According to Irani, Iranian forces issued warnings and, in cases where those warnings were ignored, took operational action that led to the retreat of opposing forces.

The navy commander emphasized that Iranian forces remain fully prepared, stating that personnel stand ready to defend national interests under all circumstances. He also pointed to repeated U.S. efforts to approach Iranian waters, which, he said, were met with missile and defensive responses.

Irani highlighted that Iran’s capabilities extend beyond missile systems, including advanced drone and air defense capacities that have successfully countered hostile movements. He further announced the interception and destruction of another loitering munition drone, marking the third such incident.

Responding to statements by the U.S. president regarding the weakening of Iran’s military, Irani dismissed the claims as unfounded.

He also rejected the notion of a “naval blockade” against Iran, describing it as an inaccurate term more akin to unlawful maritime behavior. “Iran is not under siege,” he said. “Rather, it is the United States and its allies that have effectively confined themselves.”

According to him, commercial vessels from countries such as China, India, South Korea, and Japan continue to transit the Strait of Hormuz daily without issue. He noted that even when the U.S. issues warnings, these ships proceed along their routes uninterrupted.

Irani concluded by stating that Iran is not in conflict with the international community, and that recent narratives are aimed at creating unnecessary concern rather than reflecting realities on the ground.
