Iran NSC Statement on January Terrorist Events
WANA (Jan 22) – Iran’s National Security Council (NSC) has released a comprehensive analysis of the terrorist activities that took place during the month of January 2026. The statement outlines a shift in enemy tactics following the “12-Day War” and details the scale of organised violence against the Iranian people.
Shift from Military Aggression to Social Subversion
According to the statement, intelligence assessments and security operations conducted by the nation’s security, law enforcement, and judicial bodies conclude that after the “12-Day War” imposed by the United States and the Israeli regime—and Iran’s subsequent powerful response—adversaries realised that military force alone would not compel the Iranian nation to surrender.
The NSC emphasised that the “unparalleled social solidarity” of the people was a pillar of Iran’s victory and the foundation of the Armed Forces’ ability to respond to aggression. Consequently, the U.S. and the Israeli regime shifted their tactics to target Iran’s social cohesion in an attempt to break the national will.
Exploitation of Peaceful Protests
The Council noted that following peaceful demonstrations by shopkeepers and trade guilds in several cities, the President met directly with their representatives. During these sessions, the President issued directives to address economic concerns and advised law enforcement to exercise “patience and cooperation” regarding peaceful gatherings.
However, the statement asserts that “organized chaos cells” intentionally disrupted the peaceful trajectory of these protests. Between December 30, 2025, and January 07, 2026, these elements successfully pushed demonstrations toward violence, causing significant damage across the country.
Transition to Maximum Violence and Terrorism
The analysis describes a more dangerous phase on January 08 and 09, where the objective shifted to “rendering the situation uncontrollable” through maximum violence. Organised armed attacks targeted public gatherings to fabricate casualties and blame the state, alongside the destruction of public and private property.”
The NSC report detailed “ISIS-like atrocities,” including:
Targeted Brutality: Acts such as immolating individuals, beheadings, and stabbing victims to death, alongside the widespread use of firearms.
Infrastructure Damage: Systematic attacks on markets, banks, mosques, religious centres, ambulances, public transport, medical centres, and fuel stations.
The Human Toll: These actions resulted in the “martyrdom” of 2,427 civilians and security personnel, out of a total of 3,117 fatalities recorded during the unrest.
Failure of the “Sinister Plot”
The National Security Council stated that documents in its possession confirm a “full-scale, heinous crime” was committed against the Iranian nation with the support of foreign ill-wishers.
The statement concludes by crediting the “wise and sagacious positions” of the Supreme Leader, the sacrifices of security and law enforcement forces, and the “epic presence” of the Iranian people on January 12 for the failure of the enemy. “By the grace of Almighty God,” the statement reads, “national unity and cohesion have once again imposed a defeat upon the enemies of Iran.”
