WANA (Aug 02) – The Iranian Red Crescent Society has expressed solidarity with the people of Vietnam after recent devastating floods and landslides in the country’s northwest region, and announced its readiness to provide humanitarian assistance.

Pirhossein Kolivand, President of the Iranian Red Crescent, extended condolences to the families of the victims in a message addressed to Ms. Bui Thi Hoa, President of the Vietnam Red Cross Society.

“With deep sorrow, we learned of the widespread floods and landslides in northwestern Vietnam, which have unfortunately resulted in casualties, missing persons, and damage to infrastructure,” Kolivand wrote.

He added that the Iranian Red Crescent stands in solidarity with the Vietnam Red Cross and the affected families and is fully prepared to offer humanitarian cooperation if needed.

“In these difficult moments, we are by your side and express our willingness to support any humanitarian efforts,” the message concluded.

According to Vietnamese state media reports on Friday, at least 14 people were killed or reported missing due to flooding caused by heavy rains. The mountainous village of Kha Dong suffered the heaviest toll, with one confirmed death and six missing.

Local outlets reported that intense and prolonged rainfall triggered river overflows and flash floods, submerging homes in low-lying areas. Power outages and blocked roads were also reported in some affected regions.

Rescue efforts have been disrupted as heavy rain continues, complicating search operations for the missing.
