Iran, Oman Hold High-Level Talks in Tehran
WANA (Jan 10) – Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Saturday, January 10, 2026, formally welcomed Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi at Iran’s Foreign Ministry in Tehran.
Albusaidi arrived in Tehran earlier in the day for a one-day official visit. Following the welcoming ceremony, delegation-level talks were held between the two countries, chaired by Araghchi and Albusaidi.
Speaking at a joint press conference on Saturday afternoon, Araghchi said the visit reflected the close relations between Iran and Oman, adding that ties between Tehran and Muscat are steadily expanding across various fields.
He stressed that Iran and Oman are firmly determined to broaden cooperation in all areas, particularly in the economic sector, and emphasized that both sides support the preservation of regional stability and security through cooperation among regional countries.
Araghchi said the two sides held constructive discussions on regional issues, including Palestine, repeated Israeli violations of ceasefires in Palestine and Lebanon, as well as the latest developments in Yemen, Lebanon, and Syria. He added that he briefed the Omani foreign minister on his recent visit to Lebanon and highlighted shared grounds for bilateral cooperation.
Referring to the importance of regional cooperation to prevent what he described as the continued criminal actions of the Israeli regime in West Asia, Araghchi said extensive discussions were held with Omani officials on the issue.
Iran, Oman Stress Yemen’s Territorial Integrity
On Yemen, the Iranian foreign minister said Tehran and Muscat both emphasize the preservation of Yemen’s territorial integrity and reaffirmed their commitment to continued cooperation on the issue in a way that serves the interests of all Yemeni people and safeguards the country’s stability and unity.
Araghchi underlined that Iran seeks to expand relations with neighboring and regional countries based on good neighbourliness and to prevent external interference aimed at creating divisions in the region. He expressed appreciation for Oman’s mediating role in regional affairs, including its efforts—particularly by Albusaidi—during Iran-US negotiations, which he said were ultimately derailed by the United States.
He added that Iran is determined to continue its historically positive relations with Oman on the basis of mutual respect and good neighborly relations.
Araghchi also stressed that national sovereignty is a fundamental principle of international law, saying domestic issues of countries can only be resolved through dialogue and that no country has the right to interfere in the internal affairs of another.
He announced that a joint Iran-Oman economic commission will be held in Tehran in the near future, expressing confidence that bilateral relations will expand in all areas, especially economically.
In response to a question about Yemen, Araghchi said Iran and Oman have always maintained close consultations on regional issues. He stressed that both countries oppose any plan to divide Yemen, warning that such schemes would lead to regional instability and serve what he described as Israeli objectives.
Araghchi reiterated Iran’s support for the territorial integrity of Yemen, Somalia, Syria, and all regional countries, rejecting any attempts to fragment them, which he described as an Israeli project. He emphasized that decisions on Yemen must be made by Yemenis themselves, without foreign interference.
Oman: Relations with Iran Based on Positive Atmosphere
Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi, speaking at the joint press conference, said a positive atmosphere governs Iran-Oman relations and that both sides are working to strengthen ties in various fields.
He said discussions with Araghchi covered bilateral relations and regional developments, noting that the joint economic commission between Iran and Oman will be convened soon.
Albusaidi said the two sides discussed the latest regional developments, including Palestine and Yemen, stressing the importance of defending the Palestinian cause and realizing an independent Palestinian state. He condemned repeated Israeli attacks and ceasefire violations.
He added that Oman supports efforts aimed at restoring peace, stability, and de-escalation in Yemen and emphasized the need to ensure security and stability in a way that safeguards the interests of all neighbouring countries. Albusaidi stressed that dialogue and diplomacy are essential to resolving regional crises and preventing further tensions.
Expressing hope to host Araghchi in Muscat in the near future, the Omani foreign minister said Oman’s longstanding policy is to keep channels of dialogue open among all countries and to promote confidence-building to resolve regional and international challenges.
