WANA (Jul 26) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Iran and Oman have held several rounds of talks on managing the safe passage of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, adding that technical and political consultations between the two countries will continue despite the conclusion of the latest round of negotiations.

 

Speaking to reporters, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said several rounds of discussions were held in Tehran on Friday and Saturday at the deputy foreign minister level. He said the two sides exchanged views on shared principles and operational mechanisms for ensuring the safe navigation of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz while respecting the sovereign rights of the two coastal states.

 

Baghaei described the talks as constructive, saying they had produced progress. He added that the Omani delegation left Tehran on Saturday afternoon, but technical and political consultations between the two countries remain ongoing.

 

Responding to a separate question about the current situation in the Strait of Hormuz, Baghaei said there has been no change in the status of maritime traffic through the strategic waterway.
