Iran–Pakistan Talks Highlight Frozen Assets Issue and Call for “Real” Lebanon Ceasefire
WANA (Apr 11) – New details have emerged from recent talks between Iranian and Pakistani officials, focusing on regional developments and the future of Iran–U.S. negotiations.
According to reports, an Iranian delegation led by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, along with the foreign minister, met with Pakistan’s parliamentary leadership and stressed the need to release Iran’s frozen assets.
While U.S. officials have reportedly agreed in principle, Iran’s state broadcaster Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting stated that no precise or verified information has yet been published regarding the actual release of these assets.
During the discussions, Iran also reiterated its position on regional dynamics, stating that a “real and tangible” ceasefire in Lebanon would require concrete action from Washington.
Pakistan is said to be playing a mediating role in shaping the framework for potential future talks between Tehran and Washington.
Meanwhile, uncertainty continues over the format of negotiations, with no final decision on whether they will be direct or indirect. In this context, Shehbaz Sharif has proposed trilateral talks, a suggestion currently under review.
Iranian officials have also underscored their distrust of the United States, citing what they describe as a pattern of repeated non-compliance in previous negotiations.
