Iran, Pakistan Vow Closer Ties, Condemn Israel at SCO Summit
WANA (Sep 01) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, in a meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday (September 1, 2025) during his visit to China, stressed the closeness of the two nations and the need to expand cooperation.
“Our feeling is that there is no distance between the people of our two countries,” Pezeshkian said. “We want to strengthen and deepen bilateral relations in all areas and remove obstacles to further cooperation.”
The Iranian president expressed his firm belief that Muslim countries must work together to address shared challenges: “It is unacceptable to me that Islamic societies continue to suffer from poverty, conflict, and numerous problems. If the elites and active forces of Islamic nations cooperate with determination, we can solve these issues and reach higher common goals.”
Pezeshkian also reiterated his condolences over recent flood casualties in Pakistan, adding, “Climate change and its consequences can largely be managed through scientific achievements and modern knowledge. The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to cooperate with Pakistan in various fields to bring greater peace, prosperity, welfare, and stability to both nations and the wider region.”
On the situation in Gaza, Pezeshkian criticized Western silence and support for Israel, stating: “I am astonished that those who claim to defend civilization, human rights, and peace not only remain silent in the face of these crimes, but also supply weapons and equipment that enable them. Denying people access to water, food, and medicine and letting children, women, and men die of hunger is utterly unacceptable and inhumane.”
Sharif: Pezeshkian’s Visit to Pakistan Was “Constructive and Fruitful”
For his part, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked President Pezeshkian for his repeated condolences over the flood disaster in Pakistan. He asked that his warmest regards be conveyed to Iran’s Supreme Leader and highlighted the positive impact of Pezeshkian’s recent visit to Pakistan.
“Your visit was very constructive and fruitful, strengthening the friendly and brotherly relations between the two countries and raising mutual understanding to higher levels,” Sharif said.
“It brought deep joy to our people and strong enthusiasm among our economic and business communities. We must accelerate the exchange of delegations and interactions between the two sides to achieve the goals of that visit. Cooperation between Iran and Pakistan is moving on the right path.”
Sharif emphasized that both countries, as part of the Islamic bloc in the region, should collaborate to achieve broader Islamic objectives, stressing the need for unity against Israel’s actions in Gaza: “All Muslims and Islamic countries must unite their voices against Israel’s genocide and crimes in Gaza and defend Palestinian rights loudly and clearly.”
Pakistan Condemns Israel’s Aggression Against Iran at SCO Summit
In a separate address at the 25th summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Tianjin, China, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned Israel’s actions against Iran.
“We condemn, in the strongest terms, Israel’s aggression against our brotherly neighbor and fellow SCO member, the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he said, stressing that “such reckless acts are never acceptable.”
Sharif also expressed deep concern over the situation in Gaza, calling for an immediate halt to Israel’s crimes and bloodshed against Palestinians.
