Iran Parliament Speaker Mocks U.S. Bond Rates and Naval Role
WANA (May 15) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf ridiculed the U.S. government on social media following reports that U.S. 30-year bond yields reached 5% for the first time since 2007.
Sharing a news snippet on X (formerly Twitter), Ghalibaf criticized the U.S. for funding military operations in the Strait of Hormuz—which he called “our backyard”—at interest rates unseen since the 2008 Global Financial Crisis (GFC).
He specifically mocked Pete Hegseth, referring to him as a “failed TV host” cosplaying as Secretary of War.
“You know what’s crazier than $39 trillion in debt?” Ghalibaf wrote. “Paying a pre-GFC premium to fund a LARP [Live Action Role Play]. All you’ll get is a brand new GFC.”
