Iran Plans Visa Processing in Turkey for 2026 World Cup
WANA (May 20) – Mehdi Mohammad-Nabi, the team manager of Iran’s national football team, has announced that Iran has a definitive plan for its participation in the 2026 World Cup and remains highly optimistic, despite outstanding visa issues for players and staff.
Speaking to the media, Mohammad-Nabi outlined the team’s preparations and addressed ongoing logistics regarding security and travel documentation for the upcoming tournament, which is being co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Security Protocols and Coordination
Addressing security measures, Mohammad-Nabi stated that all arrangements are proceeding appropriately in accordance with FIFA protocols.
“Inside the United States, they have established committees, including a security committee that collaborates directly with FIFA to manage safety issues,” Mohammad-Nabi said.
“We have experienced all of these procedures in past tournaments and are fully aware of how these security committees operate in every World Cup we have participated in. In this regard, we have a clear plan and remain very optimistic.”
Visas for Players and Coaching Staff
The statement comes amid disclosures from Iranian officials that players and coaching staff have not yet been granted their travel visas. Mohammad-Nabi revealed that the national team plans to process their visa applications through the Canadian Embassy in Turkey.
Responding to concerns over potential delays or denials, the team manager acknowledged the lingering uncertainty but pointed to international football regulations.
“We are not yet certain that all players and staff members will receive their U.S. visas,” Mohammad-Nabi noted. “However, under FIFA statutes and tournament regulations, host nations are legally obligated to provide specific guarantees. One of these core obligations is the provision of visas; they must facilitate the necessary visa arrangements for all teams that qualify for the World Cup. FIFA has established frameworks to ensure the host country extends full cooperation to teams like Iran in this matter.”
