Iran Pushes to Accelerate Next-Generation Defense Technology
WANA (May 26) – Masoud Pezeshkian said Iran’s armed forces must speed up the development of advanced defense technologies and modernize the country’s military and security structures in response to evolving security threats and warfare technologies.
Speaking at a meeting with senior commanders and officials from Iran’s Defense Ministry, Pezeshkian said Iran’s adversaries have gained access to new technologies and tools, making it necessary for the Iranian military to expand cooperation with universities, research centers, and knowledge-based companies in order to reach the “cutting edge” of defense technology.
Referring to the recent war, he said Iran’s enemies did not expect the country to possess such offensive capabilities and operational readiness, adding that part of the “surprise” experienced by the opposing side was the result of years of continuous efforts to upgrade Iran’s strategic military capabilities and defense systems.
The Iranian president also stressed the need to redesign the country’s defense and security structures, decentralize defense facilities, and strengthen military fortifications, describing these measures as essential for improving Iran’s defensive resilience.
Pezeshkian said support for the armed forces and the families of those killed in the war remains one of the government’s priorities, adding that Tehran is pursuing plans to improve housing, welfare, and living conditions for military personnel.
He also emphasized that domestic unity and addressing public demands are critical to maintaining national strength during wartime and security crises.
In another part of his remarks, Pezeshkian said countries in the region have come to realize that the US military presence has failed to provide lasting security and that relying on Washington for protection is an “unrealistic” approach.
He also praised Iran’s armed forces for staying out of political and factional disputes, calling their professional conduct “a valuable asset” for the country.
