Iran Ranks Eighth Globally in International Science Olympiads
WANA (Feb 04) – The head of Iran’s National Organization for the Development of Exceptional Talents (Young Scholars Club) said Iranian students have achieved single-digit global rankings in international science Olympiads, placing the country eighth worldwide in recent years.
Seyed Reza Hosseini stated that Iranian Olympiad teams performed strongly last year across several disciplines, securing third place in mathematics, seventh in computer science, and eighth in physics at the global level.
He noted that these results have helped Iran consolidate its scientific standing in international Olympiads and place it among a small group of countries that have achieved such success by relying primarily on domestic talent.
Referring to the growing international recognition of Olympiad medalists, Hosseini said that in many countries, including China and the United States, leading universities and major technology companies such as Google, OpenAI, and Huawei directly collaborate with and recruit Olympiad winners.
Hosseini emphasized that Iran also provides special incentives for its Olympiad medalists. Gold medal winners are exempt from the national university entrance examination and are allowed to continue their studies in fields related to their area of expertise at Iranian universities.
According to him, gold medalists in biology are admitted to medical sciences and life sciences programs, while winners in mathematics or physics are accepted into engineering and technical fields.
Hosseini expressed hope that with continued support for the country’s scientific elite, Iran will join the ranks of the world’s top countries in international Olympiads in the near future.
