Iran Reaffirms Its Undisputed Sovereignty Over the Three Iranian Islands
WANA (Sep 10) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry has rejected the claims made in the final statement of the 166th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Arab League, reaffirming Iran’s undisputed sovereignty over the islands of Abu Musa, Greater Tunb and Lesser Tunb and stressing that repeated territorial claims in political statements cannot alter the geographical, historical or legal realities concerning the islands.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, September 9, the Iranian Foreign Ministry rejected and condemned all claims and allegations made against Iran in the final statement of the Arab League foreign ministers’ meeting.
The statement said that at a time when Israel, described by Tehran as the main source of instability and insecurity in West Asia, is carrying out military aggression, genocide and war crimes in the occupied Palestinian territories, Lebanon, Syria and other Arab and Muslim countries, the insistence of some Arab League members on making unfounded accusations against Iran, rather than focusing on supporting the Palestinian people and confronting Israeli occupation and expansionism, is unjustifiable.
The Foreign Ministry also reaffirmed Iran’s longstanding policy of good-neighborliness, stressing the importance of strengthening regional cooperation and avoiding divisive positions among the countries of the region.
Tehran Reaffirms Sovereignty Over the Three Islands
The statement reiterated Iran’s sovereignty over Abu Musa, Greater Tunb and Lesser Tunb, describing them as inseparable parts of Iranian territory.
According to the Foreign Ministry, Iran’s sovereignty over the islands is based on historical records, the continuous exercise of sovereign authority and recognized principles of international law. It stressed that repeating unfounded territorial claims in political statements would not change the geographical, historical or legal realities concerning the islands.
Iran Rejects Claims of Interference in Yemen
The Iranian Foreign Ministry also rejected claims concerning Iranian interference in Yemen.
The statement said Iran has consistently emphasized the need to preserve Yemen’s unity and territorial integrity and has supported intra-Yemeni dialogue based on the agreed roadmap.
Iran’s Position on Maritime Security in the Strait of Hormuz
The Foreign Ministry further stressed Iran’s longstanding commitment to maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz.
It said insecurity along regional maritime routes is a direct result of U.S. and Israeli military aggression, adding that Iran has taken necessary defensive measures, in accordance with international law, to safeguard its national security and interests.
Tehran also emphasized that security in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman should be ensured through cooperation among the littoral states and without interference by foreign powers.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry concluded by expressing Iran’s readiness for dialogue and cooperation with regional countries aimed at strengthening mutual trust, achieving sustainable security and promoting economic development across West Asia.
