WANA (Nov 01) – Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Friday night held a phone conversation with Sudanese Foreign Minister Mohiuddin Salem, during which he strongly condemned the recent attacks and the killing of civilians in the city of Al-Fashir, reiterating the Islamic Republic of Iran’s firm support for Sudan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

 

The Sudanese foreign minister briefed Araghchi on the latest developments in his country and expressed appreciation for Iran’s principled stance in supporting Sudan’s legitimate government and showing solidarity with its people.

 

Both ministers voiced satisfaction with the progress made in bilateral relations and reaffirmed their mutual determination to expand cooperation in various political, economic, and cultural fields.

Al-Fashir, one of the main hubs for humanitarian operations in the Darfur region, has been under siege by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) since May 10, 2024. International organizations have warned of the catastrophic humanitarian consequences of the situation for civilians.

 

The conflict between Sudan’s armed forces and the RSF, which began on April 15, 2023, continues unabated. According to reports from the United Nations and local sources, the fighting has claimed more than 20,000 lives and displaced or forced more than 15 million people to flee their homes.
