Iran Rejects Arab League Foreign Ministers’ Claims
WANA (Apr 23) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei has firmly rejected the content of the recent statement issued by the foreign ministers of the Arab League regarding the Islamic Republic of Iran, calling on the bloc to adopt positions free from the influence of unilateral and unconstructive approaches by some of its members.
Reaffirming Iran’s commitment to the principles of the United Nations Charter—including the prohibition of the use of force and respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity—he stated that Iran’s defensive actions against U.S. military bases and facilities in certain southern Persian Gulf countries were carried out within the framework of the inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter, and in response to what he described as U.S. and Israeli military aggression against Iran.
Referring to established principles of international law, including non-intervention and the obligation of states not to allow their territory to be used against others, Baghaei added that regional governments which, in any way—whether by granting access, providing bases, or offering logistical or intelligence support—have made their territory available for U.S. and Israeli military actions against Iran bear international responsibility for the consequences and must be held accountable.
He also rejected the accusations against Iran, stating that chronic instability and insecurity in West Asia are the result of the military presence and interventions of extra-regional actors, as well as the continued occupation and what he described as efforts aimed at the displacement of Palestinians. Ignoring these realities, he warned, would only prolong and intensify instability.
The spokesperson further emphasized Iran’s commitment to strengthening trust and cooperation among regional countries, urging them to recognize their legal and political responsibilities, avoid escalatory positions, and pursue constructive engagement based on mutual respect.
