Iran Rejects Seoul’s Claims Over Ship Incident
WANA (May 28) – Following allegations raised by South Korean officials regarding Iran’s alleged role in a recent incident involving a vessel in the Persian Gulf, the Iranian ambassador to Seoul firmly rejected the accusations, stressing that Tehran had no involvement whatsoever in the event.
Saeed Kouzechi, Iran’s ambassador to South Korea, told reporters after meeting with the First Vice Foreign Minister of South Korea that Iran categorically rejects all allegations related to the incident.
“Iran had absolutely no role in this matter and rejects all accusations made against it,” he said.
Responding to questions from journalists about whether Tehran would accept the findings of the South Korean investigation or issue an apology, Kouzechi dismissed the idea and warned about what he described as possible “false flag operations” carried out by hostile actors.
“We must remain vigilant regarding such scenarios orchestrated by adversarial parties,” he stated.
The Iranian ambassador also referred to the security situation in the region and the Strait of Hormuz, describing some recent incidents as resembling “maritime piracy.” He claimed that the current tensions are the result of the policies and actions of the United States and Israel.
In further remarks, Kouzechi pointed to regional developments and certain past events, saying that the possibility of “deceptive operations” should not be ignored, while also commenting on speculation surrounding the recent incident.
He additionally emphasized the importance of maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, stating that Iran has consistently supported the safe passage of vessels through the strategic waterway.
The Iranian diplomat concluded by saying that his meeting with the senior South Korean Foreign Ministry official lasted around 40 minutes and focused on bilateral relations and ways to expand cooperation between Tehran and Seoul.
Earlier, South Korean authorities, while announcing the results of their investigation into an attack on a vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, claimed that a range of evidence and indications pointed to Iran’s involvement — an allegation that Tehran has completely denied.
