WANA (Mar 30) – Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations has firmly rejected recent accusations made by his Ukrainian counterpart, describing them as “baseless, misleading, and politically motivated” in a formal letter addressed to the UN Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council.

The letter follows a UN Security Council meeting held on March 23, 2026, under the agenda item “Maintenance of peace and security in Ukraine.” Amir Saeid Iravani stated that the Ukrainian representative misused the Council’s platform by deviating from the agenda and presenting claims that lack credible evidence.

Iravani categorically denied all allegations against Iran, arguing that they are intended to divert international attention from what he described as an ongoing “war of aggression” against Iran. He asserted that the accusations seek to obscure military actions by the United States and Israel against Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Criticizing what he called a “distortion of realities” in the Middle East, Iravani said Ukraine’s remarks ignored the root causes of current tensions, including military attacks that began on February 28, 2026. He described this omission as evidence of a biased and politically driven narrative against Iran.

In another part of the letter, Iravani pointed to the Ukrainian representative’s remarks about deploying “hundreds of experts” to the region, interpreting it as an admission of direct involvement in actions against Iran. He argued that such measures could amount to material and operational support for military aggression, potentially carrying consequences under international law.

He further stated that such actions violate the fundamental principle of the prohibition of the use of force under the UN Charter and expressed concern over attempts to justify or normalize attacks on critical infrastructure, which he said contradict international humanitarian law.

Addressing claims regarding military cooperation between Iran and Russia, Iravani dismissed them as speculative and politically driven, emphasizing that Iran’s defense cooperation with other countries is conducted within the framework of international law and does not breach its obligations.

In conclusion, Iran’s envoy called on the UN Security Council to take note of Ukraine’s statements and hold it accountable for any role in supporting military actions against Iran. He also requested that the letter be circulated as an official document of the Council.
