Iran Retain Asian Games Volleyball Title with Victory Over Japan
WANA (Oct 03) – Iran’s national volleyball team defeated Japan 3–1 in the final of the Nagoya Asian Games to retain its title for a third consecutive edition and secure Iran’s 19th gold medal of the Games.
Iran delivered a strong performance in the final against hosts Japan, winning the first, third and fourth sets. Japan managed to take the second set, but Roberto Piazza’s side regained control of the match and closed out a convincing victory.
The win came just 20 days after the two teams had met in the final of the Asian Men’s Volleyball Championship. Japan won that match to claim the continental title and secure a direct qualification spot for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Iran’s victory in Nagoya not only avenged that recent defeat but also extended its dominance in men’s volleyball at the Asian Games, with the national team claiming the title for the third consecutive edition.
The volleyball gold was Iran’s 19th gold medal at the Nagoya Asian Games. It was also the only medal won by an Iranian team sport at this edition of the Games.
