WANA (Oct 31) – The 28th Algiers International Book Fair has opened with the notable return of the Islamic Republic of Iran, marking the country’s first participation after several years of absence from this major cultural event.

According to official reports, the fair runs from October 29 to November 8, 2025 (7–17 Aban 1404) in the Algerian capital. Iran is taking part with a diverse and extensive booth showcasing literary works, specialized publications, and cultural programs. The country’s participation has been organized through the joint efforts of the Iran Book and Literature House and the Cultural Attaché of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Algeria.

Recognized as one of Africa’s largest cultural gatherings and the most significant book fair in the Maghreb region, this year’s event is held under the theme “The Book: A Meeting Place of Cultures.” It coincides with the 71st anniversary of the Algerian Revolution, hosting more than 1,250 publishers from 49 countries, including 290 Algerian publishers, who are collectively presenting around 240,000 book titles.

The opening ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Saïfi Gharib, Algeria’s Minister of Culture, and the Minister of Culture and Communication of Mauritania, the guest of honor of this year’s edition. Alongside the main exhibition, numerous cultural panels and literary discussions are being held, with a significant focus on the theme of Palestinian resistance.

Initial observations suggest that Iran’s return has been warmly received by visitors. Many attendees have expressed their affection by taking photos with the Iranian flag and voicing their appreciation for Iran’s presence—sentiments that have become particularly evident in light of recent regional developments and the so-called “12-Day Sacred Defense.”

The Algiers International Book Fair continues through November 8, offering a renewed platform for cultural exchange between Iran and the Arab world.
