Iran Reviewing Response to U.S. Proposal
WANA (May 21) – Informed sources say Tehran is currently reviewing and preparing a response to the proposal recently submitted by the United States, a document that has reportedly become the focus of intensive discussions in the Iranian capital in recent days.
According to these sources, ongoing talks in Tehran are centered on the broader framework of a potential agreement, several technical details, and confidence-building measures intended to serve as guarantees for implementation.
The sources added that the U.S. proposal has helped narrow some of the gaps between the two sides, although major differences still remain.
They stressed that any further reduction in disagreements depends largely on Washington abandoning what they described as the “temptation of war,” an issue Tehran continues to view as one of the main obstacles to reaching a final understanding.
At the same time, reports have emerged about a possible visit by Asim Munir to Tehran. According to these reports, the visit would aim to help reduce tensions and move the parties closer to formally announcing acceptance of a memorandum of understanding.
However, Al Jazeera, citing a Pakistani source, reported that the trip has not yet been finalized and depends on the outcome of the Pakistani interior minister’s visit.
The Pakistani source told Al Jazeera that the army chief remains in Pakistan and that any visit to Iran will depend on the assessment of the interior minister’s trip.
The source also said Iranian officials have requested additional time to evaluate and study the parameters proposed by Washington for the negotiations.
Meanwhile, the issue of enriched uranium continues to be described as the central point of contention between Tehran and Washington, remaining the most sensitive and unresolved issue in the ongoing negotiations.
