WANA (Sep 09) – The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which continues to refrain from condemning US and Israeli attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities, is attempting to push forward another anti-Iran measure.

In a joint statement delivered Wednesday during a meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors, Iran, Russia, and China declared that a draft resolution submitted by the United States, Britain, France, and Germany to refer Iran’s nuclear file to the UN Security Council lacks any legal basis and contradicts claims of pursuing diplomacy. The three nations urged IAEA board members not to support the resolution.

The quarterly meeting of the Board of Governors convened on Monday, September 7, with representatives from 35 member states in attendance. Reports indicate that on Tuesday afternoon, September 8, the US, UK, France, and Germany officially submitted their draft resolution against the Islamic Republic to the IAEA Board. Citing alleged non-compliance with nuclear non-proliferation obligations, the resolution calls for referring Iran’s nuclear case to the United Nations Security Council.

In their joint statement, Iran, Russia, and China condemned the strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, stating that current security conditions have made the normal implementation of IAEA safeguards in Iran impossible.

Meanwhile, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi continues to insist that agency inspectors be granted access to visit Iran’s damaged nuclear facilities, despite having not yet condemned the US and Israeli attacks against these sites.
