WANA (Jan 27) – A senior military official at Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said that the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran are closely and continuously monitoring any threat to the country’s national security and will take appropriate decisions at the proper time, in response to recent media narratives and threatening remarks by military officials from the United States and the Israeli regime.

The official stated that Iran’s armed forces do not limit their monitoring to the operational phase of hostile actions, but carefully track the formation process and early indicators of any threat to national security. Decisions, he said, are made based on comprehensive field assessments and strategic evaluations.

According to the official, the notion of carrying out a so-called “limited, rapid, and clean” operation against Iran stems from serious miscalculations and an incomplete understanding of the country’s defensive and offensive capabilities. He emphasized that any scenario designed around surprise or controlled escalation would quickly slip out of the planners’ control at its earliest stages.

The official further noted that the presence of U.S. aircraft carriers and military assets in the region has been exaggerated and does not reflect the actual balance of power on the ground. He stressed that the maritime environment surrounding Iran is a familiar, indigenous operational space that is fully under the surveillance and control of Iran’s armed forces.

In such an environment, he said, the concentration and buildup of extra-regional forces and equipment do not serve as a deterrent; rather, they increase vulnerability and effectively turn those forces into accessible targets.

The senior military official added that over recent years, Iran has reshaped military equations in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman by relying on indigenous naval capabilities, an asymmetric defense doctrine, and its unique geopolitical advantages. As a result, no aggressor force can consider the security of its troops and bases in the region to be guaranteed.

Referring to past experience, he said attempts to influence Iran’s internal affairs or undermine the political structure of the Islamic Republic—whether through political and economic pressure or through military threats and psychological operations—have consistently failed and will continue to do so in the future.

He concluded by stressing that Iran will not initiate any war, but it will not allow any threat to its national security, even at the earliest stages of its formation, to reach the level of action. Full responsibility for any unintended consequences, he said, lies squarely with those parties that endanger regional stability through provocative and interventionist presence or through direct and indirect support for such actions.
