WANA (Aug 25) – Junior Greco-Roman wrestling team secured its sixth world title after earning one gold, two silver, and two bronze medals, along with 117 team points, at the 2025 Junior World Championships in Samokov, Bulgaria.

 

The competition was held from August 21 to 24, with Iran dominating the team standings ahead of Armenia (98 points) and Azerbaijan (90 points).

 

Medal Winners for Iran

  • Gold: Peyman Ahmadi (55kg)
  • Silver: Ahouro Bouyeri (77kg), Mohammad Hadi Seydi (97kg)
  • Bronze: Mohammad Javad Aboutalebi (63kg), Abolfazl Fathi Tezangi (130kg)

 

Highlight Performances

Peyman Ahmadi (55kg): After advancing past Kyrgyzstan’s Omar Intimak Uulu and Russia’s Ivan Solomin, Ahmadi defeated Kazakhstan’s Arsen Zhumas in the semifinal and clinched gold with a 5–3 victory over Azerbaijan’s Turan Dash Damirov.

 

Mohammad Javad Aboutalebi (63kg): Despite a quarterfinal loss to Armenia’s Alex Margaryan, Aboutalebi fought back through the repechage, defeating the U.S. and Bulgaria before claiming bronze.

 

Ahouro Bouyeri (77kg): Bouyeri powered through to the final with dominant wins, including a 10–0 victory over Kyrgyzstan’s Ratbek Payazbekov, before falling to Georgia’s Henri Putkaradze, earning silver.

 

Mohammad Hadi Seydi (97kg): Seydi reached the final after defeating Russia’s Ilya Komarov but settled for silver following a 5–2 loss to Ukraine’s Ihor Yakushenko.

 

Abolfazl Fathi Tezangi (130kg): After a narrow semifinal loss to Russia’s Ali Eliasov, Fathi beat Belarus’s Viachaslau Fadarina to claim bronze.

 

Other Iranian wrestlers, including Gholamreza Abdouli (67kg) and Reza Azarshab (82kg), finished outside the podium despite strong starts.

 

With this victory, Iran once again demonstrated its dominance in junior Greco-Roman wrestling, securing the world team title with authority.
