Iran Secures Third Place at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games
WANA (Nov 21) – The 6th edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games has entered its final day with only three events remaining: freestyle wrestling, para-powerlifting, and handball. Based on the results so far and the medal gap between Iran and second-placed Uzbekistan, Team Iran has officially secured third place, and its position on the podium will not change.
In the current medal standings, Turkey has confirmed its championship title for the second consecutive edition with 72 gold, 44 silver, and 37 bronze medals. Uzbekistan follows in second place with 29 gold, 35 silver, and 31 bronze. Iran, with 25 gold, 19 silver, and 32 bronze medals, firmly holds the third position.
Four Iranian athletes—Ruhollah Rostami, Younes Emami, Amirali Azarpira, and Amirhossein Zare—still have the chance to win gold. Even if all four secure gold medals and Iran ties with Uzbekistan in total golds, the higher number of Uzbek silver medals ensures that Uzbekistan will remain ahead.
A look at Iran’s history in the Games shows several previous podium finishes: third place in the inaugural 2005 edition in Saudi Arabia; second place in 2013; third place in 2017 behind Azerbaijan and Turkey; and third place again in the 2022 Konya Games after Turkey and Uzbekistan.
